GuitarCrush offers a comprehensive and practical acoustic guitar program as a blend of notations and tabulature approach. The modules are:
1. The course starts with introduction to western music notation using the sight reading approach. Reading notations and playing various tunes gives students a solid sense of timing too and lays the basic foundation to tackle the popular pop and rock guitar playing as given below. The notation module takes around 4 months.
Once the student gets a hang of notations, they are introduced to all the rudiments and eventually advanced approaches of playing popular pop and rock music,starting with chords, strumming patterns and popular songs - as given below. Students desirous of continuing notations study to next level are given that option.
2. The 2 sub-modules of this basic popular guitar module covers: How to read tabs, Alternate picking, Chords and rhythm guitar, All open chords (major, minor, 7th) , Strumming patterns using open chords, Bass Note strum, Barre Chords using 6th and 5th strings roots (E-shaped & A-shaped barre chords), Syncopation, Open position scales, Introduction to major scale, Simple exercises and tunes using open scales, Simple time signatures, basic chord theory, introduction to diatonic harmony etc.
Typical western songs in this module include: Riders on the storm (Doors), Let it be (Beatles), Country Roads (John Denver), Take it Easy (Eagles), Leaving on a jet plane (John Denver), When I saw her standing (Beatles), Comfortably numb (Pink Floyd), Another brick in the wall (Pink Floyd), Hotel California (Eagles), Knocking on heaven's door (Eric Clapton), Stand by me (Oasis), Boulevard of broken dreams (Greenday) etc. Hindi songs include Bheegi Bheegi Si, Chura Liya, Papa Kehte Hain, Musu Musu Hasi, Pehla Nasha etc. At the end of this module, you should be able to play a lot of popular songs.
3. This is followed by the 2 sub-modules of the Intermediate course. This module is also appropriate for people who have played guitar for approximately 6 months. Topics include Arpeggios, Finger picking, Carter-style solos & its applications, Bass runs, Introduction to rock, Power chords, Movable power chords, Riffs using power chords, Introduction to blues, 12-bar blues, Shuffle rhythm, Articulation (Hammer-on, Pull-Off, Bending, Sliding, Vibrato etc), Applications of articulation techniques, Detailed major and minor scale study in closed positions, Exercises in major scale, Circle of fifths, Diatonic harmony in minor scale, Detailed study in major & minor Pentatonic scales, Travis picking, Miscellaneous chords including sus chords, Palm Muting & accented rhythms. Cool songs at the intermediate level include House of the rising sun (Animals), Wish you were here (Pink Floyd), Smoke on the water (Deep Purple), Scarborough Fair, Dust in the wind, Wonderful tonight (Eric Clapton), Chura Liya, Socha hai, Rock On, Summer of 69 (Bryan Adams) etc.
4. At the advanced level, student will be blending all the above-mentioned techniques to play full songs using multi-page tabs. We have included some rocking songs here including Layla (Eric Clapton), Tears in Heaven (Eric Clapton), Wonderful Tonight (Eric Clapton), Hotel California (Eagles), More than Words (Extreme), Nothing else matters (Metallica) etc.
